# Free Starlark visual editor

> Edit Starlark as code or as a graph, and run it in the browser. The .star file is the only source of truth. Free, and nothing to install.

## What it does

Starlark is the small Python-like language Engine uses for rules, decisions and glue. This editor shows the same file two ways: as code, and as a graph. Every `def` is a node. The body of the entry function is the wiring. Change either side and the other follows.

Run it in the page. The run panel records what each node was called with and what it returned, so you can see where a value went wrong instead of guessing. Decision tables and switch branches have their own editing views, and they write plain `if` chains back to the file.

Layout lives in comments in the file, so the file stays the source of truth. Nothing is stored anywhere else.

## What it won't do

This version works on local files. Open a `.star` file, edit it, save it back. There is no assistant here and no connection to an Engine workspace.

Inside a frame, some browsers won't let a page save over a file in place. You'll get a download instead. If that's a nuisance, open the editor in its own tab.

## What an account adds

The editor is part of IoTReady Engine, and inside Engine the code you edit is the code that runs.

**Rules in your workspace.** Open a rule, a hook or a calculation from Engine, edit it as a graph, and deploy it without copying files around.

**Your real inputs.** Run against the shape of your own records, not a made-up example.

**An assistant.** It writes, changes, explains and fixes the code. Its changes come back as proposals you apply or discard.
